passed tense

Tonight's song is called "Sung", it's Mike on vocals and guitar. It's actually an old one, but enjoy it nonetheless.

7.09.2009

further

Tonight's song is "Further" and it's just Mike on piano and vocals. One take.

7.08.2009

ether or else

Alan wrote and performed tonight's song, "Anything Else", playing guitar and bass and programming it.

7.07.2009

trikt out

Hey, tonight's song is called "Far From Here". Mike played piano, programmed and beatboxed on it.

7.06.2009

you're dreaming...

Tonight's song, "When You're Brave", is Mike on guitars, vocals, bass and "drums" (programmed as usual). It's got a slightly more radio-friendly feel, than most things we've posted so far, but potentially too wacko. Not sure yet. Enjoy it nonetheless. Mike also really likes the lyrics, so here they are:

so we carved it in trees
with arrowheads we found
with fossils from way back
in the day

from a deep freeze (down, down, down, down)
buried underground
(and no one remembers that)
but then everything melted away

when you're brave
you laugh at stuff you think's not funny

when you're brave...

when ships were in pain
i'd sink 'em in storm drains (down, down, down down)
now my joints ache when it rains
(doo-do-duh-doo)
and for your escape i forgot
which knot to loosen
cuz it hid out in sewers to prove us wrong

cuz when you're brave
you only hear what you want to

when you're brave...
love is an afterthought, right?
and it's never enough, tonight.
so you're never afraid of
the stars or some stuff that's miles away from here

when you're brave...
you never cry at all ever, right?
and it's all way way way too much, tonight.
and you're never afraid
of imaginary stuff
cuz it seems like you're dreaming

7.05.2009

techno-logic

Alan wrote and performed tonight's song, "Sociologist", solo, programming drums and playing guitar and bass. Enjoy.

7.03.2009

feed. back.

Hey, tonight's song is called "Can't You If You Want To?". Mike played acoustic and electric guitars, bass, keyboard, programmed drums and sang on it. Enjoy. It's sort of a Spoon/Raconteurs ballad kind of song, which may or may not make any sense whatsoever.

7.02.2009

these comics are books are movies are crooks.

Alan wrote, programmed and played bass and keyboard on "Shoot Vanderman Once" tonight. Enjoy!

better late than never

sorry for the delay, but I couldn't get this song to load no matter what I tried last night. Anyhow, it's up now, and called "Mazarine". It's just Mike singing and playing acoustic guitar. Enjoy.

easy like...

So yeah, I'm not gonna say we had "busy" day(s) per se, but we were unproductive in a musical sense, both managing to squeeze in naps and time to catch up on our favorite sitcoms/tele-dramas online. Alan's sick. So, with great adieu, enjoy "Santa Ana," which was not recorded today, nor is it all that new, but it's a song Mike wanted to get out there, featuring only guitar and vocals, and which he probably couldn't have improved upon by re-recording, so there it is. More genuinely new music tomorrow.

6.29.2009

new plan

Alright so Alan and Mike each did a little bit with technology today programming some crazy beats over top of a little actual live instruments, and in Mike's case a little auto-tuned vocals. As a side note, we can only keep 10 songs at a teim up on MySpace, thus every day we're deleting a couple and replacing them, seemingly by random choice or our own preference, however, we'd rather do it in accordance with YOUR preferences... soooooo, if anyone feels like throwing a couple of their favorites so far in a wall post on facebook, message via MySpace, or e-mail to underwaterpanther@gmail.com so we can decide what you are all listening to and enjoying the most. Alright take it easy.

tinker tinker

Yo we messed around with stuff for hours tonight, trying to perfect it; anyhow, what's done is done now. Hope you all enjoy. Alan did "The Cushion" tonight, which has some programmed percussion as well as live bass and guitar, all of which he performed. Mike wrote "Don't wanna be with You," and played guitar and sang on it, programmed the drum track and had Alan play bass. Both songs are kind of poppy for the night, so they should put you in a great mood. We guarantee it.

6.27.2009

keepin' biz-ee

Alan's song today is called "Woo-ee," and he also penned the above title in reference to our constant grinding. He played both guitar tracks on this little gypsy jazz sounding number. Mike wrote "Crazy" and played both guitars, bass, programmed drums and sang on it. We unfortunately found out that it's technically illegal to upload cover songs to the internet - copyright infringement or something. Anyhow, keep enjoying our originals and when we start playing gigs we'll play some covers.

everything is interesting...

Alan wrote a blues song tonight and played acoustic slide guitar on it as well as bass. He had Mike play electric guitar on it. It's called "Fire the Light-Bombs". Mike's song tonight is called "Either Side" and he's been meaning to get around to recording it for a while now. It's got a country feel again. Mike played electric and acoustic guitar, sang and programmed the drum track. Alan played electric bass on it. Tomorrow we'll be throwing our first cover song at you, for which the last clue is "something magnetic and something you mail". Anyhow, enjoy tonight's songs. Adios.

Addendum for good measure here...We were on our way(s) out the door earlier and wanted to get something up here before midnight or thereabouts...so anyhow... It appears that it's technically not legal to upload previously copyrighted music to MySpace/Facebook/iLike, thus we will be uploading the song to our archive page only, because there's no law against recording yourself playing a cover song for personal use, and subsequently there's no law against saving said song on a backup storage site. It just so happens that you'll all have access to it as well. In other news, we're working on digital drum tracks in the not-having-a-drummer-meantime, so that we can gig. If it goes well, perhaps we'll go ahead and keep the format.

Mishibizhiw

So we each again took divergent routes from the outset, the only thing in common being odd noise
Alan's song, "Three Baloo", he wrote, programmed, and performed improv on the spot on slide guitar and upright bass. And we're talkin' about practice? Practice? Not the game. Mike's song has about 3 minutes and two tracks of guitar noise to begin and end it. He sang, played guitar and programmed the "Tears for Fears"-wannabe drum track, with Alan contributing the upright bass again. Oh and the tiny bit of keyboard at the start is Mike. Anyhow, we hope you're enjoying everything so far. Feel free to contact us or give feedback on any of the sites listed on the right, or via e-mail underwaterpanther@gmail.com. We'd love to hear what you like most so far and what's working/not.

6.24.2009

slacking...

Hey all sorry for the delay. It's midnight and we've each been working on our songs all evening. Anyhow, Mike tried his hand at as "country" a song as he could fathom. It's called "We were flies" and has Mike playing guitar, singing and doing the drum programming. Alan played upright on it. It's got a silly "Don-Henley"-break (Alan's words) at the 2:02 mark. Alan's song today is "Ghosts" and has Alan singing, playing acoustic guitar and electric bass as well as programming some perc in the background. He says he feels like Erick Dampier about the song. Enjoy! We'll try to be more punctual tomorrow evening...in other news, first clue for the cover song on Saturday is: River Phoenix.

...Post-Script: Just figured out (4:00 AM) how to embed a music player on this
page -------------------------->.
Now you don't necessarily HAVE to skip-to-your-Alston-lou all over the internet to HEAR the music, however, the fan/friend requests on Facebook and MySpace are ego-inflating and will actually go a long way towards making a case to venues regarding booking...more on that to come later.

108 minus

UnderwaterPanther Day 1: Divide and Conquer. "Pleistocene", which he wrote this morning, is Alan on bass and guitar; "Leaving", is an old one but re-recorded, and has Mike on guitar and vocals. We've decided on a cover song for Saturday, but you'll have to wait for a clue later in the week. Suffice it to say it'll be unexpected. We are going to try our best to get up 2 songs, whether individual or collaborative, each day for the first week, and then probably slow down to one a day as originally planned. They'll always be up by midnight central time on MySpace, Facebook, and, beginning in a few days, Esnips (only for archiving). Lastly, our jazz band will be performing on a Podcast sometime in the next few weeks, but we haven't received final details yet.

day Zero

Over the course of the next few months, UnderwaterPanther will be recording one song in its entirety every day and posting it to our MySpace page @ www.myspace.com/underwaterpanther. The tentative goal is to tackle a different genre of music each day from hip-hop to pop to acoustic to rock to country to jazz. We will only do one cover song per week, and it will be posted on Saturdays. We welcome and appreciate your comments and attention. Pertinent song info (instrumentation, credits and lyrics) as well as any other project updates (upcoming UnderwaterPanther and/or affiliate project gig info) will be available here as will a link to the archived music (MySpace allows only 10 songs at a time to be posted on their site.).
